India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to reduce the use of petrol and diesel and limit gold purchases in view of the ongoing global economic uncertainties. Supporting the appeal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah described it as a “far-sighted” and visionary step aimed at strengthening India’s self-reliance and energy security. Shah said that during this period of global crisis, the Prime Minister’s message offers a practical roadmap for the country’s future. He emphasized the need for people to use fuel responsibly, promote work-from-home practices where possible, and move away from chemical fertilizers by adopting natural farming methods. According to Shah, these measures will help India become more self-sufficient, reduce dependence on external resources, and build long-term economic resilience. He reiterated the importance of sustainable living and responsible consumption as key elements of the government’s vision for an energy-secure and self-reliant India.
