Would Greenland join the US? Old Nick Shirley interview resurfaces as Trump eyes Arctic takeover

Would Greenland join the US? Old Nick Shirley interview resurfaces as Trump eyes Arctic takeover

As Washington progress with the idea of planting a Stars and Stripes–shaped flag on the world’s largest island, Greenlanders have their own opinion: keeping it cool — and brutally honest. With reports swirling about President Donald Trump eyeing Greenland as his next big Arctic acquisition, an old video of YouTuber resurfaced, hitting the icy streets to ask locals the question the internet can’t stop debating: Do they want to become part of the US or not? And the answers are not the most expected one and especially for the European countries who are exploring different options to tackle with the US. Last year, when the rumors over Greenland started, Youtuber Nick Shirley, who became popular these days after he uncovered Minnesota daycare fraud scam, asked several Greenlanders about their opinion and actually, most of them are same. Here what happened in his interview: Youtuber Nick Shirley: What do you think about the United States buying Greenland? Greenlander1: No more Danish. Youtuber: Why do you guys not like the Danish? Greenlander1: Liar.Another Greenlander said that “it’s good” idea. Youtuber: What do you think about Donald Trump in the United States buying Greenland? Greenlander 4: Well, I don’t know about buying, but I believe that there should be a better relationship with America because I don’t think our country is very. We don’t talk with any other countries really. We are kind of bound to Denmark. Yeah, I ain’t sure about buying it. Youtuber: Would you guys like to independence from Denmark and then become part of the United States? Greenlander 4: I believe that at some day we should have independence and that also means that we would have to mine and stuff. I don’t believe we would be able to be self sufficient with that with just fish. Youtuber: Do you think it would be better for you guys to become part of the United States versus being part of Denmark? Greenlander 4: Of course there’s some benefits to America. We would have way bigger military and we would be safe from invasions in case of of a war or something. If the third world war comes, I don’t know how much it would matter with all the nuclear weapons and stuff. But there would probably be some Russians coming down, coming from Greenland to go to America and stuff as a vantage point. “No more Danish,” one man declared before branding Denmark a “liar.” Another shrugged and said America wouldn’t be so bad. One fiercely loyal Greenlander vowed he wouldn’t trade his homeland for any price — until the hypothetical offer jumped to $100,000, when principles suddenly began to thaw.It seems that Greenlanders or the people whose interview was taken by Shirley clearly like the idea of Greenland being bought by the United States but if the US tried “invading” then what? No one knew but one thing is for sure that Trump is very serious to acquire Greenland.
