Why is Trump sending troops to Chicago? Mayor Brandon Johnson pushes back, says he's creating 'ICE-free zones'

Chicago is on the boil as Trump takes war path to deal with the city he calls ‘hellhole’.

Amid heightened tension in Chicago with Donald Trump sending troops, mayor Brandon Johnson said Monday he signed an executive order to create ICE-free zones, which are city properties and unwilling business properties which, he said, won’t serve as staging grounds for ICE raids. “In recent weeks, federal agents used several City-owned properties—including parking lots near Harrison and Kedzie, and a vacant lot at 46th and Damen—as staging sites for immigration enforcement,” the mayor’s office said in a release about the order. “Such use of City property undermines community trust and runs counter to Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance, which ensures that all residents—regardless of immigration status—can live, work, and seek services without fear.”A “staging area” was defined in the order as “any location used to assemble, mobilize, or deploy personnel, vehicles, or equipment for immigration enforcement operations.””We have a rogue, reckless group of heavily armed, masked individuals roaming throughout our city that are not accountable to the people of Chicago. Their actions put all Chicagoans at risk,” Johnson said while announcing the executive order. The situation of Chicago deteriorated quickly as the federal administration launched Operation Midway Blitz to arrest undocumented immigrants with criminal records. Federal agents are now clashing with protesters as troops descending on rooftops at midnight to raid at houses became a new normal in Chicago. The feds say the targets are the Tren de Aragua gang members but the Democrats claim residents are being assaulted, harassed, children are being locked up.

Washington DC, Oregon, Chicago

The Trump administration took over Washington DC and claimed crime rates fell after the takeover. Then, Trump deployed 300 federalized members of the California National Guard to Oregon, though a federal judge blocked the move. Then, Trump authorized the deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago. Crime rate, domestic terrorism, and Antifa activists are the reasons being cited by the administration for the hostile attempts to ‘take over’. Recently, Trump called for the US military to use American cities as “training grounds,” describing a fight against “a war from within.”
