‘Why do you have Indian donors who don’t live here?’: Frisco mayor asked at council meeting

‘Why do you have Indian donors who don’t live here?’: Frisco mayor asked at council meeting

A Frisco, Texas, resident posted a video of himself asking mayor Jeff Cheney about his Indian investors at a recent council meeting. The video grabbed social media attention at a time when ‘Indians in Texas’ emerged as a major issue this week after attorney Aaron Reitz, who is contesting the Texas Attorney General election, spoke against Indians and called them unassimilable.Marc Palasciano, who calls himself a whistleblower, said at the council meeting that he would speak about the “Indian takeover in Frisco and H-1B fraud.”Comparing it with the alleged Somalian fraud in Minnesota, Marc said Frisco’s Indian population exploded by 4,510% over the last 20 years.“From 2% of the population to 33% of the population. As a reminder from the last time I spoke in June and July, let me remind you of the mayor’s donations. In 2021, 10% of donations above $1,000 were from people with Indian last names. In 2023, 55% of donations above $1,000 were from people with Indian last names — a 450% increase in donations above $1,000 from people with Indian last names. That seems like a red flag to me,” Marc said. “Now, let me ask a few questions to the mayor and city council that I don’t expect you guys to answer, but I’m going to ask them anyway. Mayor Cheney, for 2023, why were four of your top donors — Indian people — not living in Frisco or even Collin County and donating $5,000 to you?” he asked, insinuating that these donors were also getting something in return from the mayor. “I don’t understand why someone would donate to a mayor who doesn’t represent them, unless that mayor represents business interests that make them money. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that all of you are in the real estate business and those four donors have over 158 businesses registered in their name,” Marc said.He then questioned Burt Thakur, the first Indian-origin city council member, about why he used a consulting firm whose CEO, Marc alleged, was convicted of fraud.“Why is one of your biggest donors an Indian in the North Texas real estate business who doesn’t live in Frisco? Why is another one of your biggest donors a white resident in Dallas in real estate? Why does one of your biggest donors have four companies hiring H-1B employees? And why does one of your donors have 23 H-1B companies registered to one address? I’ll end my questions there. We’ll see if your constituents or any news outlets apply pressure and force you guys to answer these questions,” Marc said.
