‘We live on stolen land’: Indian-origin woman speaks out at Frisco Council meeting against racism

'We live on stolen land': Indian-origin woman speaks out at Frisco Council meeting against racism

An Indian-origin woman called America stolen land and said those who are blaming immigrants are also immigrants or descendants of immigrants.

An Indian-origin woman, Ankita, spoke at the recent city council meeting in Frisco and addressed the anti-India narrative being generated at these meetings without any repercussions. The woman said those who are blaming immigrants for all their problems are also immigrants or descendants of immigrants who came from Europe, as America is stolen land and this is the legacy of the country. “I am here to address the hateful and racist folks who feel confident and protected enough to come up here on the mic consistently across multiple meetings in Frisco, Plano and Irving to disparage immigrants and repeatedly put targets on the back of Frisco community members,” she said, introducing herself as Ankita. She said these racist comments made at city council meetings, which can be watched across the world, are going viral and people are watching how such speakers are enjoying impunity as there is no intervention, no consequence for the hateful comments they are making targeting Indians. These comments do not harm anyone inside these meetings physically, but they do harm the community members outside, Ankita said “Why do immigrants come to this country? Well, immigrants come to the US in search of better lives but instead of welcoming them, the government crushes their hopes and dreams with oppression. Their labor is exploited, they are labelled as criminals or aliens, they are subjected to forced removal, detention, deportation… and the racist folks blame them for their own problems,” Ankita said, urging everyone to think how the government is spending so much money on immigration instead of healthcare or housing for the American people. “We live on stolen land and that land was stolen from indigenous people. That is the legacy of this country. The same people blaming immigrants for their discomfort are also immigrants or descendants of immigrants who came here from Europe. There is no place for violence and racism in Frisco. And the violent mobs outside the Frisco temples and mosques need to be charged and prosecuted,” Ankita said. Another Indian speaker, Pranavi Chatrathi, spoke out against how Indian-American kids were attacked as social media commentators pointed out that the Boy Scouts who took part in previous city council meetings were all Indians.Frisco City Council meetings have become controversial as several speakers in the past attacked the Indian community of Frisco and called out the ‘Indian takeover’ of the city.
