Maduro who has been in power for nearly 12 years, experienced a sudden end to his rule today.

It seems the New Year’s fireworks weren’t enough for the Trump administration. On January 3, 2026, Trump announced the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife by the US forces in a dramatic and shocking operation.Maduro who has been in power for nearly 12 years, experienced a sudden end to his rule today. Who is he and what is his net worth? Let’s delve below!

Who is Nicolas Maduro?

Nicolas Maduro Moros was born in 1962 in Caracas. He began working as a bus driver for the Caracas Metro System and gradually rose to participate in trade unions. This foray launched him into politics and helped him become a close ally of former Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. In 2013, he married Cilia Flores, a leading lawyer and politician in the country. She served as a member of Venezuela’s National Assembly and went on to become its president in 2006, as the first woman to do so. He served as Venezuela’s foreign minister from 2006 to 2013 and later moved on to become the Vice President. Following Chavez’s death in 2013, he became the president of the South American country. In 2024, he was elected for the third time as the president.

What is Nicolas Maduro’s net worth?

The 63-year-old Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores’s net worth estimates are unclear due to limited disclosures. As per Celebrity Net Worth, Maduro’s net worth is estimated at about $2 million. Whereas, Flores’ net worth is placed between $2 million and $5 million. These estimates are based on public service salaries and recorded assets.

US sanctions against Maduro

Maduro’s government has been repeatedly accused of widespread corruption, including allegations that senior officials siphoned off billions in oil revenues through criminal networks. His administration has faced severe sanctions imposed by the US and other nations. In 2020, he was charged with corruption and other offences by Washington. He took an oath for a third term in January 2025 and the elections that led to the results were slammed as fraudulent by international observers and the opposition. While Venezuela has no leader now, the possibility of 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner and opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González rising to the rank is considerable.
