UK police probe possible Iran link in antisemitic arson attack on Jewish ambulances in London

UK police are investigating a possible Iran link after an Islamist group claimed responsibility for an arson attack on Jewish charity ambulances in north London, in what is being treated as a suspected antisemitic hate crime.Four ambulances were destroyed in the early hours of Monday in Golders Green, prompting a major emergency response and a counterterror-led probe, though the incident has not yet been formally classified as terrorism.

What happened in Golders Green

The attack took place in Golders Green, an area known for its large Jewish community. Four ambulances belonging to Hatzola Northwest were set on fire in the early hours of Monday. Authorities believe the vehicles were deliberately targeted in what is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime.

The blaze triggered explosions from gas cylinders inside the ambulances, shattering nearby windows and prompting evacuations. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Police examine possible Iran link

The Metropolitan Police Service said it is investigating an online claim by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, a little-known group believed to have links to pro-Iran networks.Met Commissioner Mark Rowley said investigators are pursuing “all lines of inquiry,” but stressed it is “too early” to directly attribute the attack to Iran. Security agencies have warned against jumping to conclusions even as the claim is being scrutinised for authenticity.

CCTV shows hooded suspects, no arrests yet

Investigators are analysing CCTV footage that appears to show three hooded individuals pouring an accelerant on the parked vehicles before setting them on fire.A manhunt has been launched, but no arrests have been made so far.

Starmer condemns ‘horrific’ attack

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident as a “horrific” and “deeply shocking” act of antisemitism. He met Jewish community leaders and assured support, while authorities announced increased security at Jewish schools, synagogues and community centres. The attack comes amid increasing concern over rising antisemitic incidents following the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent conflict in Gaza.Community leaders say the incident has increased fear among Britain’s Jewish population. In 2025, a deadly attack also took place outside a synagogue in Manchester.
