In a beautiful display of compassion leading up to the 54th UAE National Day (Eid Al Etihad), the Rulers of Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman have granted freedom to more than a thousand prisoners. This generous royal gesture aims to provide a second chance, helping released inmates reintegrate into society and reunite with their families. In total, a remarkable 1,079 inmates across the two Emirates will walk free. This act of mercy follows an annual tradition in the UAE, where Rulers issue pardons ahead of major national and religious holidays, underscoring the values of forgiveness and stability.

Ras Al Khaimah’s unprecedented pardon

According to a reports, “H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi … has ordered the release of 854 inmates, Saud’s commitment to easing the burdens on the families of the inmates and giving those released an opportunity to turn the page on the past.”Crucially, Sheikh Saud didn’t stop at just granting freedom. He also committed to settling the financial liabilities of the pardoned individuals. This extraordinary measure ensures that when the inmates leave prison, they are not immediately burdened by debt, genuinely giving them a righteous, fresh start in life and alleviating the hardship on their families.

Ajman joins the act of mercy

Meanwhile, H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, contributed to the collective act of goodwill by pardoning 225 prisoners ahead of the National Day celebrations. This decision, made in cooperation with the Ajman Police General Headquarters, focuses on the core purpose of the pardon: upholding family cohesion. The goal is simple and direct: to give these individuals a fresh opportunity to rebuild their lives, bringing much-needed stability back to their homes just in time for the national celebrations. This unified show of clemency across the Emirates exemplifies the UAE’s commitment to community welfare.Hope, and responsibilityWhile specific names of the pardoned individuals have not been publicly released, in deference to privacy and rehabilitation integrity, the official decrees cover a broad range of inmates, likely including those who served significant parts of their sentences, or who have shown good behaviour and rehabilitation potential. The exact nature of offences or individual backgrounds hasn’t been disclosed, which aligns with typical government practice when issuing mass pardons. The pardons were formally announced via the respective emirate’s official channels and covered in media reports. Local authorities emphasised that these decisions are part of periodic amnesties tied to national celebrations, a tradition that underscores social solidarity and the values of renewal and forgiveness.
