UAE Golden Visa 2025: Special consular services announced for emergency support, return docs, and more

The UAE’s new consular service for Golden Visa holders offers emergency assistance, return documents, repatriation support, 24/7 global access, and more

In a landmark move unveiled at GITEX Global 2025 in Dubai, the UAE has launched a first-of-its-kind international consular support system exclusively for Golden Visa holders. This initiative reflects a new phase of inclusion, ensuring long-term residents receive extended overseas protection, crisis assistance, and dignified end-of-life support previously reserved for Emirati citizens.

A milestone announcement at GITEX Global 2025

Unveiled during the 45th edition of GITEX Global in Dubai, the new consular services represent a joint initiative between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). The launch event was marked by the presence of Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, Undersecretary at MoFA, and Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, who were joined by senior officials, entity staff, and visitors to the global technology showcase. Major General Al Khaili described the initiative as a “qualitative leap” in enhancing government integration and public service. He highlighted that the authority, in collaboration with MoFA, is delivering smart, human-centered solutions that align with the leadership’s vision to empower long-term residents. He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to values of humanity, generosity, and excellence, stating that these services reflect a sustainable and secure ecosystem for Golden Visa holders.

A dedicated suite of global services for UAE Golden Visa holders

Golden Visa holders now have access to a full spectrum of consular services while abroad—services that were, until now, exclusive to UAE nationals. The new support system is structured around four core service pillars:

1. Emergency assistance and crisis response

Golden Visa holders are now included in the UAE’s official emergency and evacuation plans during disasters and international crises. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate directly with UAE Missions abroad to offer:

  • Immediate assistance during natural disasters, political unrest, or health emergencies;
  • Real-time responses through a dedicated 24/7 hotline at +971 2 493 1133, accessible from outside the UAE;
  • Fast-track inclusion in crisis response plans, ensuring the safety of both primary Golden Visa holders and their registered family members.

These services extend the scope of the UAE’s humanitarian commitment and align with broader national objectives to ensure resident well-being under all circumstances.

2. Electronic return document for passport loss or damage

In the event a Golden Visa holder loses or damages their passport while abroad, they can now apply for an electronic Return Document to re-enter the UAE. Key points include:

  • The document is valid for a single entry and must be used within 7 days of issuance.
  • Upon re-entering the UAE, the individual is expected to renew their travel documents through regular channels.
  • Processing time is approximately 30 minutes after submitting a complete application.

How to Apply:

  • Log in via the UAE Pass on the Ministry’s official website or smart app;
  • Submit the passport loss report, Golden Visa details, and a recent personal photo with a white background.

Cost: There are no fees for this service. Note: The Return Document is strictly for direct travel to the UAE and cannot be used for transit through or entry into third countries.

3. Repatriation and burial support

The UAE has extended its repatriation services to include Golden Visa holders who pass away while abroad. Families are now supported in navigating international protocols during times of loss, with services that include:

  • Full procedural and logistical coordination with local authorities and UAE Missions abroad;
  • Fast-tracked consular processing to ease documentation and facilitate swift repatriation of mortal remains;
  • Ongoing advisory support through the 24/7 MoFA hotline.

To initiate a repatriation request:

  • Contact the UAE Mission in the respective country or call +971 2 493 1133;
  • Provide key documents including the deceased’s passport, official death certificate, and any applicable medical or local authority records.

Note: While procedural support is fully provided by UAE Missions, all financial costs associated with repatriation are to be covered by the deceased’s family, as per UAE’s approved policy guidelines.

4. Family inclusion in consular support

The consular services also extend to eligible family members of the Golden Visa holder. This includes:

  • Spouses and children who are officially registered as dependents;
  • Family members holding valid UAE residency permits.

This extension ensures that families traveling or residing with Golden Visa holders are also protected under the new emergency and support frameworks.

Expanding the definition of long-term residency care

The UAE Golden Visa, introduced in 2019, offers long-term residency for up to 10 years, allowing foreign nationals to live, work, and study in the UAE without a sponsor. Over time, eligibility has expanded to include:

  • Investors (public and real estate sectors);
  • Entrepreneurs and startup founders;
  • Outstanding students and graduates;
  • Frontline workers, doctors, and researchers;
  • Specialists in science, engineering, and creative fields;
  • Recently, categories such as superyacht owners, content creators (influencers), exceptional gamers, and teachers have also been added by different emirates including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ras Al Khaimah.

Golden Visa applications can be submitted via ICP’s website, ICP centers, or the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai. The newly introduced consular services are available exclusively to those holding valid Golden Visas and their qualifying dependents. Go to Source
