A message sent in seconds can trigger consequences that last far longer. According to Gulf Today, an Arab man has appeared before the Sharjah Misdemeanour Court after what he described as a simple spelling mistake in a WhatsApp exchange led to charges of electronic insult. The case was filed after a complainant, identified in court records as B.F., accused the defendant of insulting him through messages sent via WhatsApp. Following the complaint, an official report was lodged, prompting legal proceedings and the defendant’s appearance before the court.During the hearing, the accused denied the allegation. He told the court that he had no prior relationship with the complainant and that they were strangers.

He explained that their communication began through a vehicle sales website and that they had never met in person. All exchanges between them, he said, took place through WhatsApp.Addressing the specific word cited in the complaint, the defendant maintained that it was not intended as an insult but was instead the result of a typographical error. He requested additional time to attempt an amicable settlement with the complainant. After reviewing the matter, the Sharjah Misdemeanour Court decided to adjourn the session, granting both parties the opportunity to reconcile. The case underlines how even minor digital interactions, including a single misplaced word, can carry legal implications when interpreted as defamatory under electronic communication laws.
