Two Indian women killed in California car crash; families say they were looking for jobs in US

Pullakhandam Meghana Rani and Kadiyala Bhavana, two Indian women who were friends and were looking for jobs in the US, died in a car accident in California. They were returning from a short trip with friends. According to reports, they were from India’s Telangana and came to the US three years ago for a master’s. It was weekend trip and there were other friends too with Meghana and Bhavana. The car they were traveling plunged into a gorge near Alabama on Sunday. Both the women were killed on spot while others sustained serious injuries. Meghana’s father, Nageshwara Rao, runs a Mee-Seva centre, while Bhavana’s father is the deputy sarpanch of Mulkanoor village, a report said. A fundraiser has been set up for bringing Meghana’s body to India. “Meghana Rani(Chikki) moved here from [Garla Khammam in India, Telangana] with dreams and a heart full of love. To those who knew her, she was a kind, vibrant soul who always put others first. Her sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled. She was an Indian national, unmarried, and belonged to a lower-middle-class family from Garla village, Telangana, India,” it said. “We humbly request your support during this extremely difficult time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us give my Sister a dignified farewell and will mean more to us than words can express,” the fundraiser said. This is the second such tragic incident for the Indian community in the US this week, after Telangana’s Yashwanth Kumar Goshika, a 33-year-old resident of Dallas, passed away in his sleep. According to reports, he was msuffering from a health condition related to sleep apnea. A separate fundraiser has been put up seeking help for bringing Yashwanth’s body back to India.
