Triple homicide: 15-year-old Texas boy kills ex-girlfriend’s younger siblings and mother

A 15-year-old Texas boy has been arrested after allegedly carrying out a targeted triple homicide that left his ex-girlfriend’s mother, 13-year-old sister and 9-year-old brother dead inside their Odessa apartment. Police described the attack as a “cowardly act of violence” that has devastated the family and shocked the community.According to Odessa Police, the teen had initially planned to shoot his ex-girlfriend outside her school but changed his mind and went to her home instead. The girl, also 15, was not physically harmed, though authorities noted that she now faces unimaginable emotional trauma after losing her entire immediate family.Officers were called to the Eighty Seventh Apartments around 5.45 p.m. on 9 December, where they discovered the bodies of Jessica Rodriguez, 39, her 13-year-old daughter, and her 9-year-old son. The teenage suspect fled the scene but was quickly identified. Odessa Police Chief Mike Gerke said officers “knew almost immediately” who they were looking for. He was captured roughly 40 minutes after the shootings and is now being held at the Ector County Youth Center. He has been charged with capital murder of multiple persons, one of the most serious felony charges in Texas. Under state law, offenders under 18 cannot receive the death penalty, even in capital cases. The father of the children, Roy Casey Martinez, expressed overwhelming grief in a public fundraiser, saying he never imagined such a tragedy could strike his family. “My heart is extremely broken,” he wrote, describing the pain of losing two children and his former wife.Authorities have not released a motive, and no further details have been shared regarding the circumstances that led to the suspect’s actions. Odessa Police say the investigation remains ongoing.Police Chief Gerke called the killings a reminder that “evil does visit us from time to time,” urging the community to support the surviving teenager and grieving family members. As investigators work to understand what led to the triple homicide, Odessa residents are left grappling with the brutality of the attack and the unanswered question of why such violence unfolded.
