‘They know Asmongold?’: HasanAbi’s stunned reaction to the streamer’s global fame breaks the internet

During a recent conversation about streamers, HasanAbi expressed complete shock upon learning that his fellow streamer, Asmongold, is widely recognized in China. Asmongold has long been one of Twitch’s biggest names, consistently landing among the platform’s top streamers and finishing 2024 as its fourth most-watched creator. He’s built a massive audience across both Twitch and YouTube, drawing in millions of loyal viewers. Still, despite his huge presence online, even Asmon was surprised to discover just how far his reach extends. He recently discovered that he has gained a strong and active following overseas, especially in China, something he never expected.

HasanAbi’s hilarious disbelief proves Asmongold’s fame knows no borders

When HasanAbi said, “They know fu**kin Asmongold and sh*t…that’s so strange…no one from China should know who Asmongold is,” his words reflected a mix of disbelief and fascination. Asmongold, best known for his World of Warcraft streams and outspoken personality, has built a loyal fanbase primarily in Western gaming circles. Asmongold’s influence has quietly stretched far beyond Twitch, but even he didn’t realize how big his impact was in China until a January 2025 stream. While browsing his subreddit, he stumbled on a screenshot from Bilibili, China’s version of YouTube, showing that he has his own dedicated category packed with videos pulling in massive numbers. Seeing clips about himself rack up “460,000 views” left him stunned, prompting his hilariously honest reaction, “Oh my f**king god! And there’s pages of this sh*t?” Many of these viral uploads center on his blunt takes about Black Myth: Wukong, whose controversial loss to Astro Bot sent shockwaves through the global gaming community. Ironically, Asmon was banned from Bilibili for two years, something he believes stemmed from his past criticism of China. Now, he jokes that Wukong’s success might have turned things around, “I was banned until Black Myth Wukong came out, and I liked it so much that they decided to unban me.” His unexpected popularity underscores just how deeply interconnected modern gaming audiences have become, even across platforms and countries with strict digital borders. Also read: Did Hasan Piker get arrested in China?
