Another earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, near the epicentre of Sunday’s powerful tremor, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. The latest quake was centred 34 kilometres (21 miles) northeast of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province, the USGS added. The fresh tremor near the same epicentre comes just a day after a powerful 6.0 magnitude quake devastated parts of the region late Sunday, leaving over 1,400 people dead and nearly 2,500 injured, according to a Taliban government spokesperson. The series of quakes has caused widespread destruction, flattening homes and buildings, and triggered massive rescue and relief operations as authorities struggle to reach affected communities. This is a developing story
