Savannah Guthrie says family is 'ready to talk' to person holding her mother: 'We need to know that she is alive'

Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have made a public plea in the ongoing search for their 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing since Saturday, January 31. Authorities are investigating her disappearance as a possible abduction from her home near Tucson. In an emotional video posted to her Instagram account on Wednesday, Guthrie addressed anyone who might be holding or have information about her mother. She said the family is “ready to talk,” but wants proof that Nancy is alive and in the possession of those contacting them.Guthrie said the family has seen media reports about a possible ransom letter, but noted that digital voices and images can be manipulated, and that they must be certain her mother is alive before engaging in anything. She urged anyone with direct information to contact the family or investigators.

What authorities have said

  • Police believe Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will from her home on Saturday night. Local law enforcement found “concerning circumstances” at the residence and are treating the location as a crime scene.
  • The 84-year-old suffers from health issues and limited mobility and requires daily medication, making the situation urgent according to the sheriff’s office.
  • No suspect or person of interest has been publicly identified so far. Investigators are examining possible ransom notes that were reported to local media, but have not confirmed their authenticity.

Family’s public appeals

In addition to the “ready to talk” message, Guthrie and her siblings have issued repeated public pleas asking for her mother’s safe return. They described Nancy as frail but of sound mind, and that she requires daily medication and care.Savannah Guthrie has suspended her work commitments, including planned coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics, to remain with her family during the search.Law enforcement continues to ask anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. No further details have been released about possible suspects, motives, or the validity of ransom communications.
