‘Right time to stay in India’: H-1B Redditor asks if people working in India are saving more than those in US

'Right time to stay in India': H-1B Redditor asks if people working in India are saving more than those in US

An Indian Redditor who got picked up in the H-1B visa lottery in 2025 asked on the social media platform if staying in India is the right choice at present. At a time when the work environment in the US is turning hostile against Indians and several companies are now reluctant to hire Indians on the H-1B visa program, the Redditor said Indians working in the US are able to save hardly $1500-$3,000 per month.

An H-1B Redditor asks whether it's the right time to stay in India.

“I am h1b holder from India picked in 2025 March. My friends are staying in USA from last few years ( in diff states), all have a common point now, “This is right time to stay in INDIA”..when I ask why they say now in India, we can get 30-35 LPA per annum , and if spouse is working it would be good..In USA for 115-125k, they say they hardly save 1500-3000 usd per month (depending on only spouse or with kid) and other factors.. like no family, househelp and other,” the Redditor wrote asking for suggestions.

Who is saving more? What is the Reddit verdict?

The comment section of the viral post turned into a major debate. But the main takeaway is that the answer depends on the employer. If the employers in a staffing company in the US who will send the H-1B to a client, then the risk is more for less money. FAAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google) jobs are safer than consultancy jobs as US State Department is also targeting these consultancies, Reddit users said. Social media users were divided on whether an average $2000 saving per month is enough in the US. Many felt that it was not possible in India with a 35LPA job. “Considering the politics in the US, and India’s GDP growth, the opportunities are getting much better here (India). Less discrimination also lets you do a lot more. My pay is 75 LPA not including ESOPs etc (8 years work ex). Based in Blr. Have an MBA from a top tier indian insti, pretty standard pay for my qualifications,” one wrote, explaining that staying in India is better.
