‘Packed with Indians’: Japanese YouTuber Ikechan stirs row with 'racist' comment aboard Air India flight

Ikechan, a Japanese YouTuber, found herself in hot water after a social media post regarding her flight to India, where she referred to the aircraft as ‘full of Indians.’ This comment provoked a significant backlash, leading many to accuse her of racism and disrespect towards Indian culture.

Japanese YouTuber Ikechan stirred a row after posting a comment on X about her flight to India. In a caption accompanying her post, she wrote: “Taking the notoriously bad Air India for my first-ever trip to India!! The plane is packed with Indians…”The remark drew backlash from social media users, with one writing, “Air India is packed with Indians never expected this level of racism from a Japanese,” while others accused her of trying to defame India. Following the criticism, Ikechan muted comments on the post which has gone viral with 9 million interactions.

評判の悪いエアインディアに乗って、人生初のインド旅!!機内はインド人だらけです・・・🇮🇳

The controversy comes after her recent vlog documenting her first visit to India. In the video, she shared her experiences on the flight with Air India, noting the number of Indian passengers on board. The vlog is part of her broader travel content, which covers destinations around the world and focuses on local food, culture, and lifestyle experiences. She also talked about women safety in India. Online reactions to Ikechan’s post have been largely critical. Comments included:

  • “I can tell you one thing, it wasn’t worth being called a clown from all sides including your own country’s citizens”
  • “Are you out of your mind? Or are you just trying to make Japanese people hated by Indians?”
  • “Guys dislike this video, she is coming to defame India only.”
  • I think this woman is just ragebaiting Indians. But think before making such videos, it might start fueling hatred towards Japanese people among Indians.
  • Do you have some kind of problem with Indians? If so, then why did you come here in the first place?
