‘Not what Founding Fathers envisioned’: Fresh anti-Hindu attack on social media over Carolina Murugan temple

'Not what Founding Fathers envisioned': Fresh anti-Hindu attack on social media over Carolina Murugan temple

Under-construction Murugan temple in Carolina became the new target of Hindu hate on social media.

After Texas’ Hanuman Statue, Ganesh Chaturthi procession drew anti-Hindu hatred on social media, now a planned Murugan temple in Carolina is at the center of a fresh Hinduphobic attack. According to the website of the temple, the project, conceived in 2018, will have a temple, the world’s tallest Murugan statue, a Tamil cultural museum and a Tamil library. Stephen Horn, an independent journalist, reported that while the temple is still to be developed, the organization has been raising funds selling “blessed” sarees. “Hindus have acquired over a hundred acres for a massive temple complex in the rural town of Moncure, NC. The Tamils plan to build the world’s largest statute of their “warrior god” Murugan, which would be taller than the Statue of Liberty,” Horn’s viral post said. “However, the “Carolina Murugan Temple” site appears to still be largely undeveloped while the organization attempts to fundraise the millions and millions of dollars required with events such as a fundraiser today selling “blessed” Sarees,” Horn added. “Hindus in North Carolina have acquired over 130 acres of residential land and are CURRENTLY building a MASSIVE temple with plans for a 155-foot statue of Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war. The statue will be taller than the Statue of Liberty…” former nuclear scientist for US Dept of Energy Matt Van Swol commented. Texas Republican leader Alexander Duncan, who called Lord Hanuman a false god, said: “This is not what the Founding Fathers envisioned when they wrote the First Amendment”.The controversy came amid Vice President JD Vance distancing himself from his wife, Usha Vance’s Hindu religion and hoping that one day she would embrace Christianity.

‘We are also spreading love’

Stop Hindu Hate Advocacy Network posted the photos of tall Jesus Christ statues in India and replied that it is the same thing. “65 feet statue of Jesus in Puthiragoundampalayam, Salem, Tamil Nadu. Jesus statue at Velankanni Church, Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu. You are spreading “love” in India. We are spreading “love” in North Carolina! Same to same!” the organization wrote.
