No barrier from Dhaka on improving India ties: Bangladesh

DHAKA: There are no barriers from Dhaka’s side on improving relations with New Delhi, but progress requires cooperation of both sides, Bangladesh foreign affairs adviser Md Touhid Hossain asserted Thursday, even as he said there was no update from India on the request for former PM Sheikh Hasina’s extradition.“We wrote once and updates will be shared if another request is sent,” Hossain, who in July had said govt would continue pursuing Hasina’s extradition, told reporters. After Hasina fled Bangladesh in Aug 2024 following a mass uprising, Bangladesh sent a diplomatic note to India in Dec that year, formally requesting her extradition. On talks about the return of BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman, who is in a self-imposed exile in the UK, ahead of the polls, Hossain said it is his decision when he chooses to come back.
