Moldova elections: Zelenskyy hails Maia Sandu's victory; calls out Russia's 'destabilising activity'

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed victory of pro-European Union party in Moldova’s election, claiming that Russian “destabilising activity” failed to failed to upend the results. In a social media post on X, Zelenskyy said that Russia’s subversion and the constant disinformation did not work in the elections and Moldova defended itself from the threats.

‘French Spies…’: Telegram CEO Drops BOMBSHELL Amid Russian ‘Meddling’ Claims I Moldova Election

“I spoke with President of Moldova Maia Sandu. I was glad to congratulate Maia on a very important victory and wish her success,” Zelenskyy said. “These elections showed that Russia’s destabilising activity loses, while Moldova in Europe wins. Russian subversion, constant disinformation – none of this worked. It is important that Moldova was effective in defending itself against threats together with all who helped. We always support Moldova. We will continue working together. Jointly overcoming challenges and building a future where our peoples have strong prospects – in security, in the economy, and therefore in social life,” he added. With over 99.91 percent of ballots counted, the party of President Maia Sandu had garnered 50.16 percent of the vote to elect members of the 101-seat parliament. That compared to 24.19 percent for the pro-Russian Patriotic Bloc, according to results published on the election commission’s website.Elections in Moldova were seen as crucial for the ex-Soviet republic to maintain its push towards EU integration, launched after Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The small European Union candidate nation, which borders Ukraine and has a pro-Russia breakaway region, has long been divided over whether to move closer with Brussels or maintain Soviet-era relations with Moscow.”Russia threw everything dirty it had into the fight… It’s not only PAS that won the elections, the people won,” Igor Grosu, leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), told a press conference.
