Giselle Byrd was picked by Governor Maura Healey in August to join the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women. The commission said Giselle Byrd and Candace Perez will bring new ideas and strong experience to their work. Chairwoman Mary-dith Tuitt said the two leaders will help the mission of supporting women and girls across the state.Megyn Kelly reacted after the news spread online. On November 16, she shared a short message on X. She wrote, “Men make the best women, we all know that.” Her message upset many people. It also brought more attention to Byrd’s appointment. Many people replied to Kelly and shared their own views. Some supported her, but many others said her comment was unfair and unkind.The Massachusetts Family Institute also released a statement on its Facebook page on November 12. The group strongly disagreed with the appointment. They said this shows what they called a “regressive lie” in the state. They also wrote that if people say men and women are the same, then a man can “wear the female form like a Halloween costume.” Their post created more debate and strong reactions online.Giselle Byrd has worked in the arts for many years. In December 2023, she became the executive director of The Theater Offensive. This group is known for queer art and for helping young queer artists. In June, she told The Bay State Banner that it is powerful to give queer and trans artists of color a place to share their work.
