A viral video circulating on social media shows an incident unfolding at Milan’s Malpensa Airport on Wednesday, with a man being restrained by multiple individuals inside the smoke-filled terminal. The man was apprehended after reportedly damaging check-in desks with a hammer and setting fire to part of Terminal One, causing sections of the terminal to be evacuated and several flight disruptions.The clip, shared by one user on X, was captioned: “Meanwhile at Malpensa Airport, Milan Italy. Usual suspect is apprehended after smashing parts of Airport Terminal up with a Hammer & then setting fire to it.” The fire began around 11 am local time when the suspect poured flammable liquid and ignited it near the check-in area. Before that, he allegedly set fire to a waste bin and used a hammer to damage airport property, including information screens and desks between counters 12 and 13, according to reports from The Independent and Varese NewsAn employee of SEA, the airport’s management company, spotted the smoke and intervened. The employee sustained injuries and was treated by emergency medical services. No other injuries have been reported.Border Police and airport security company ICTS personnel quickly responded and restrained the suspect. His motives remain under investigation by Polaria, Italy’s airport police, who have confiscated the hammer used in the attack.The Lombardy Airports Association said in a statement: “The situation was quickly brought under control after the arrest of the madman who set fire to and destroyed several check-in desks.”Authorities noted that the closure of parts of the terminal and subsequent evacuation could lead to flight delays and cancellations at Malpensa’s Terminal 1.
