‘Mamdani is Indian’: Mehdi Hasan fires back after Donald Trump's son says Zohran ‘hates Indians’

Tensions erupted on social media when journalist Mehdi Hasan challenged Eric Trump’s assertion that Zohran Mamdani ‘hates Indians.’ Hasan pointed out that Mamdani is of Indian descent, labeling Trump’s comments as ‘utterly misguided.’ This spat arose after Trump criticized the mayor-elect’s views on Jewish communities and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

A spat erupted online after British journalist Mehdi Hasan pushed back against Donald Trump’s son, Eric’s attack on New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who he claimed “hates Indians,” by pointing out that the Mamdani, in fact, Indian. Hasan posted on X: “Zohran Mamdani is Indian. This is why they call Eric the dumbest of the dumb sons.” Hasan’s comment came in response to Eric Trump accusing Mamdani of hating both Indians and Jews, while also suggesting the incoming mayor wanted to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “There is no place in the world that can compete against New York City, and yet you have a socialist, communist, however, you wanna label this, who wants to arrest Netanyahu, hates Jews, hates Indian population, wants to defund law enforcement. You know what that’s gonna cost. It’s so sad,” he said on Fox News.Mamdani has previously said he would arrest Netanyahu if the Israeli leader landed in New York and would be detained at the airport he arrived at, citing the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant issued in November 2024.Eric Trump serves as executive vice-president of the Trump Organisation. He slammed Mamdani’s agenda and said the city only needed “safe streets, clean streets, reasonable taxes.” Mamdani, a leftist, has vowed to tax the rich as one of his most important slogans.Zohran Mamdani is a Democratic socialist who made history earlier this month by winning the New York City mayoral election. He is set to become the city’s first Muslim mayor and its youngest leader in more than a century when he takes office on January 1, according to CNN. Mamdani also won in a city that houses more Jews than Jerusalem itself, making it a remarkable feat.
