King Charles, Queen Camilla not to meet Epstein survivors during historic US visit — here’s why

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will not meet survivors linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case during their upcoming state visit to the United States, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.Palace sources indicated that while there have been calls, particularly from victims’ families and advocacy groups, for such an interaction, it has been ruled out due to ongoing legal considerations. Officials said that any engagement that could potentially interfere with active investigations or judicial processes would be avoided. The decision also reflects the monarchy’s cautious approach given longstanding scrutiny over historical associations between Epstein and members of the British establishment, notably the King’s brother, Prince Andrew.

Focus on domestic abuse advocacy

Despite the exclusion, Queen Camilla is expected to actively engage with organisations supporting survivors of domestic abuse and violence against women. This aligns with her long-standing advocacy in this area and is expected to be a key pillar of her engagements during the visit.

High-stakes diplomatic mission

The four-day visit, scheduled from April 27 to 30, marks King Charles’ first official trip to the US as monarch. It comes at a time of somewhat strained UK-US relations, with geopolitical tensions, including differences over Iran, adding complexity to the diplomatic backdrop. However, Palace insiders emphasise the King’s potential to reinforce the enduring partnership between the two nations, describing it as a relationship that has “survived many presidencies and many reigns.”

Historic milestone and key engagements

The visit coincides with the 250th anniversary of American independence, a landmark moment the royal couple will help commemorate. King Charles is also expected to address both houses of Congress, underlining the significance of the occasion.Among other highlights, the couple will:

  • Attend a commemorative event marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks
  • Participate in celebratory events, including a symbolic “block party”
  • Begin their trip with a private meeting hosted by the US President and First Lady

Who was Jeffrey Epstein? Rise and fall

Epstein built vast wealth through finance, reportedly managing money for billionaires, though much of his financial operations remained opaque. He cultivated connections with influential personalities across politics, royalty, and entertainment. His downfall began in 2008 when he pleaded guilty to child prostitution charges in Florida, serving just 13 months in custody under a controversial work-release programme, a sentence widely criticised as overly lenient. In 2019, Epstein was arrested again on federal sex trafficking charges involving minors. Prosecutors alleged he operated a large-scale abuse network, exploiting underage girls. Weeks after his arrest, he was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell, a death officially ruled a suicide, though it continues to generate widespread speculation. Go to Source
