Jimmy Kimmel says he knows why Justin Trudeau is dating Katy Perry: 'To exact revenge for US tariffs'

Jimmy Kimmel joked that Trudeau is taking the revenge of US tariffs by dating Katy Perry.

Jimmy Kimmel had to mention the most viral news of this week on his show but he also came up with an explanation of why former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is dating Katy Perry. Kimmel said this is Canada’s revenge against Donald Trump’s steep tariffs. “We had a sighting off the coast of Santa Barbara,” said Kimmel. “I don’t know if you’ve seen this but Katy Perry, the pop music super star, was spotted smooching the former prime minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.”“There they are making out openly,” said Kimmel, saying “oot” instead of “out,” trying a Canadian accent. “Trudeau is shirtless wearing jeans, which is an outfit from the RFK Jr collection. And man, oh man, what a couple…”“I’ve been wondering how Canada was going to exact their revenge for the tariffs and this is it.” “They’re taking our women. They’re not just taking our women. They’re taking our astronauts,” he said, taking a swipe at the fact that Katy Perry went to space on Blue Origin. The US and Canada were at loggerheads, and tariffs were only one of the issues. President Donald Trump made his intentions clear to Trudeau that he wanted Canada to join the US of A as the 51st state, where Trudeau would become the governor. This became Trump’s favorite joke even after Trudeau resigned and is out of politics now and Mark Carney is the PM. At the recent Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt, Trump called Mark Carney ‘President’ by mistake. Moments later, when Carney personally spoke tp Trump and mentioned the ‘upgrade’, Trump said: “At least I didn’t call you a governor.””You have Canada. That’s so great to have. In fact, the President called, and he wanted to know if it was worth – well, he knew exactly what it is. He knew the importance. Where’s Canada, by the way? Where are you? He knew the importance of this,” Trump said on the microphone. “Thanks for upgrading me to President,” Carney later told Trump privately but it was caught on a hot-mic moment. “Oh, did I say that? At least I didn’t call you a governor,” Trump added.
