The City of London Police arrested Mukund Krishna, the head of the Police Federation of England and Wales, on suspicion of corruption on Wednesday. “This is a complex and active investigation in which we are pursuing all lines of inquiry.”

Is Mukund Krishna a cop? What is the Police Federation of England and Wales?

The Police Federation of England and Wales is the organisation that represents rank-and-file police officers (from constable up to chief inspector) across England and Wales, providing welfare support, representation and negotiating on pay and conditions. Mukund Krishna was appointed as the first-ever CEO of the Police Federation of England and Wales in 2024. He is not a police and in fact his background was in management. Before joining the deferation, he worked as a management consultant and leader of major transformation programmes, including roles in the UK and overseas, and held senior positions overseeing large-scale organisational change. His appointment in the role from his non-police background and on a £320,000 salary a year drew scruntiny earlier as well. A spokesperson of the federation said: “We are aware that three individuals connected to the Police Federation have been arrested as part of an ongoing police investigation. This is a live matter and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage. The organisation is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities.”
