Indian man killed in targeted firing Canada outside busy Toronto mall, cops clueless about shooters

37-year-old Indian man, Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar, was shot and killed in Canada outside a busy mall in Etobicoke in Toronto, sparking fear among shoppers and workers at the mall as the incident took place in broad daylight and it took place during a busy shopping afternoon on Sunday. The Toronto Police responded to the shooting around 3.30 pm when the man was still alive. He was taken to the hospital in a life-threatening condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. Inspector Errol Watson said they have reasons to believe that the shooting was targeted. This is Toronto’s third homicide of 2026. “I can understand a shooting like this, especially at a mall, can cause concern for the safety of the public,” Watson said.“Officers will be canvassing for any witnesses, videos and evidence. We are asking anyone who saw something to say something,” he said as the investigation began and forensic officers arrived at the crime scene. It was not immediately known how many people came to shoot Chandan Kumar and how many shots were fired.

10 bullet holes on a white Hyundai SUV

At the crime scene, police located a white Hyundai SUV parked close to the mall’s entrance with around 10 bullet holes on the driver’s side of the windshield. The mall was pretty busy when the shooting took place and many of those who were present inside the mall told Toronto Star they did not notice anything until they saw cops. The suspects, it was believed, did not enter the mall. In a statement to CBC Toronto, Woodbine Mall spokesperson Andrea Zviedris said they are aware of the “tragic situation” and are cooperating with authorities, but could not comment further on the active investigation.According to reports, Chandan Kumar is from India’s Karnataka and had been working in Canada for the past six years.
