'I have two jobs': Donald Trump reveals his ‘construction job’ and why he’s renovating the White House

It seems Donald Trump has other jobs along with serving as the President of the United States of America. It is well-known information that the 79-year-old was a successful real estate developer before descending into politics. While he might not have had the time to put his builder mind to work the first time, he is making sure to cement an impression during his second term. “I have two jobs,” he said recently during his Kennedy Center Honorees speech. “I have a construction job, which is really like relaxation for me because I have been doing it all my life,” he shared during the nine-minute detour in the speech, discussing his various renovations.

He also recounted asking someone if he was a better builder or politician. “And they didn’t know how to answer that question,” Trump said with a laugh. “I’m not sure how to answer it either, if you want to know the truth, but I actually get great relaxation out of fixing the White House and fixing the Kennedy Center.”While this does take his time and attention, he insisted he can fit it all in because unlike other people, “I don’t really want to rest.”

Trump’s White House renovations

Since the beginning of his second term, Trump has filled the Oval Office with gold decorations, paved the Rose Garden and added giant flagpoles on the north and south lawn. He has also replaced tile in the Lincoln Bathroom with marble, overseen the overhaul of the Kennedy Center and added his touch to the Palm Room. In an interview with Laura Ingraham of Fox News, he explained that the old tile was cheap and broken. He replaced “lanterns that were terrible” with new chandeliers and brought attention to every little detail. “If you look at the air conditioner vent, it’s book-matched. Look at it,” Trump said to the presenter. “I can do that because I know that, you know, it’s even available that you could do that. Very few people can do it.”Along with his executive decisions, Trump is making no qualms about his renovation plans. The entire East Wing of the White House was renovated in October to create a new ballroom. All Presidents have made their own additions to the White House, with the east wing, west wing and Truman balcony being some to name. But Trump’s overhaul has not only been extremely elaborate but also expensive. “We’re donating a building that’s approximately $400 million,” Trump shouted into a microphone at a recent Hanukkah celebration, referencing the ballroom. He also renamed the Kennedy Center, a performing arts center created by Congress as a memorial for the late President John F. Kennedy.
