‘I am in Pakistan. I need a job’: Man’s plea for Canadian sponsorship, visa goes viral

‘I am in Pakistan. I need a job’: Man’s plea for Canadian sponsorship, visa goes viral on social media

A Pakistani man’s desperate plea for a job in Canada has gone viral on X, which resulted in a tirade of reactions and comments online. The exchange began after Canada’s Department of National Defence posted on X, announcing that they are looking for workers in the defence sector and can apply by March end.The department said: “We’re hiring trades helpers, general labourers, maintenance workers, property services technicians, and drivers across Canada! Help shape the future of Canada’s defence. Apply by March 31.”A user from Pakistan, apparently wanting a job abroad, asked the department directly on their announcement post, looking for information regarding the hiring. Ajaz Khan, a user from Pakistan, replied to the announcement: “Out side Canada apply this job..?”The department responded: “Canadian citizens, persons residing in Canada, and Permanent residents abroad can apply.”Khan again said: “Ok I am in Pakistan I apply direct in Pakistan ..?”The department clarified: “To apply you must be a permanent resident of Canada.”Khan then asked: “Ok if you have any upcoming sponsership visa job then I am applying”Another user warned Khan: “You’re getting deported”Khan explained his situation: “No dear I am in Pakistan i need a sponsership job in Canada any province any program any job I am interested only need a job”

One user criticised the idea of moving to Canada, saying the country does not need more immigrants: “There are no jobs in Canada. We do not need any more immigrants right now. People are losing their homes here. Canada is not a good place to immigrate to.”Khan insisted: “I just need a job, so that I can take good care of my family. In Canada, the income is much better compared to Pakistan. By living there, I’ll send some money back to Pakistan for my family, so that they can also live comfortably.”

How many Pakistanis live in Canada?

As of the 2021 Canadian Census, over 303,000 Canadians reported Pakistani ancestry, with many living in urban centres like Toronto, Alberta and British Columbia. Pakistan ranked among the top sources of recent immigrants, with tens of thousands gaining permanent residency through family, skilled worker and economic streams by 2024.
