‘Horrible’: Amazon bans delivery worker who stole a cat from California home

'Horrible': Amazon bans delivery worker after doorbell footage revealed he stole a cat from California home

Amazon said it had banned the delivery worker who allegedly stole Piper, a Siamese mix cat, from outside of a residence in California, where he went to drop a package. The incident was caught on the doorbell camera and after the video was shared on social media, the old theory that Haitian migrants were eating cats made a return. The theft took place on December 11. The cat was outside the door when the delivery worker came and approached the person. The man petted the cat and then picked it up and took away. Diane Huff-Medina, the owner of the cat, said it is microchipped but was not wearing the collar at that time. “This was a horrible act, and we’ve apologized to Ms Huff-Medina,” Amazon spokesman Louie Tran said. “The Amazon Flex delivery partner in question is no longer eligible to deliver to our customers. We’re in touch with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office to share relevant information with them and we’ll continue to support their investigation.”The cat had not been returned while authorities confirmed that the driver was identified and charges will be imposed. Huff-Medina said she didn’t realize Piper, who lived indoors and outdoors, had vanished until the next day when she saw her Ring doorbell footage. “It’s a helpless feeling because we watched her get taken, so I don’t know where she is or if she’s OK,” she said. “I just want my cat back for myself and for my kids, especially. I have three little boys who love her. We want her back,” she added. The name of the suspect has not been revealed but he is a 37-year-old, police said. The man told the police that he thought he was a stray cat and that’s why he took it. Police saoid that the man claimed that the cat was not with him as it got restless and jumped out of his truck. Huff-Medina, however, said it looked like the cat was resisting and the man forcefully took it.
