‘Honestly’: Hillary Clinton says she would nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize, only if Ukraine doesn’t lose territory

'Honestly': Hillary Clinton says she would nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize, only if Ukraine doesn't lose territory

Hillary Clinton says she would nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize but on one condition.

Hillary Clinton said she would nominate President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if Trump could end the Russia-Ukraine war with a solution in which Ukraine does not lose its territory. The statement came ahead of Trump’s meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Alaska. “Honestly, if he could bring about the end to this terrible war, if he could end it without putting Ukraine in a position where it had to concede its territory to the aggressor, could really stand up to Putin — something we haven’t seen, but maybe this is the opportunity — if President Trump were the architect of that, I’d nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize,” Hillary told the “Raging Moderates” podcast released Friday. “Because my goal here is to not allow capitulation to Putin,” Hillary said, explaining her statement. It was not a slip of the tongue or her words put out of the context as Trump’s 2016 failed Democratic opponent shared her statement on her social media. “If Donald Trump negotiates an end to Putin’s war on Ukraine without Ukraine having to cede territory, I’ll nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize myself,” she wrote. Trump aims to make a deal with Putin to end the Russia-Ukraine war, though today’s meeting may not come up with the final deal, Trump said. There could be a possible second meeting in the presence of Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and some European leaders if today’s meeting holds such possibilities, Trump said. Before departing for Alaska, Trump said he would not be negotiating for Ukraine as Ukraine will decide the possible land swap that may be become necessary for a peace deal. Ukraine is, however, counting on Trump as Zelenskyy urged Trump to convince Russia to halt the war. “It is time to end the war, and the necessary steps must be taken by Russia. We are counting on America,” Zelensky said in a social media post.
