Vice President JD Vance proved he can take a meme in stride, posting a photo of himself in a curly wig on Friday — a tongue-in-cheek nod to the viral “bloated, smiling Vance” meme that’s been circulating online.Vance, on Friday, shared on X a photograph of himself wearing a curly brown wig to mimic the viral “fat JD” meme, in which he was depicted as bloated and smiling.
He posted the image on his profile as a close-up of his face, with brown locks framing his widened eyes. He later unveiled his full Halloween costume in a video on Instagram. Vance opened a door and said, “Happy Halloween. And remember to say thank you.” The clip ended with a purple filter over the vice president as he spun in a circle to the theme of “The Twilight Zone.”The “fat JD” meme first appeared online following a contentious meeting in February between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, when Vance stepped in to ask Zelenskyy if he had “ever said ‘thank you’ once?”
How netizens reacted?
The meme shows Vance with shoulder-length brown curls, widened eyes and an enlarged chin and cheeks, and has since been used to poke fun at the vice president. Ahead of Vance’s Halloween posts, conservative political commentator Benny Johnson on Thursday shared a video on Facebook hinting at the costume. “Yesterday I asked JD Vance point blank what his Halloween costume was going to be because I’ve seen the speculation online and, well, we all want this to happen,” Johnson said, right as a clipped-in photo of the meme appeared. “And JD Vance told me this,” Johnson continued. “‘Stay tuned. The internet is going to love this. The internet is going to love this.’ Ladies and gentlemen, your first meme lord vice president. Get ready.”Elon Musk also commented on the photo with the laughing emoji. A user on X said, “You did it. You actually did it. Thank you sir for saving the republic, the country, and the west.” Another user said, “It’s official, folks. JD Vance is the Great MAGA Memelord foretold by prophecy.”
