Golden surprise: Saudi schoolboy brings gold from home to gift classmates

A quiet school day in Riyadh took an unexpected turn when a primary school pupil arrived carrying something far more valuable than homework. According to a report by Gulf News, the child had brought pieces of gold jewellery from his family home and began handing them out to classmates as gifts.Teachers first became aware of the situation after noticing students receiving gold items during the school day. The discovery immediately raised concern within the school administration, prompting staff to question the child about where the jewellery had come from. The pupil reportedly told school officials that he had taken the pieces from his mother’s drawer at home. The administration then contacted the family, who confirmed that the gold items belonged to them. The jewellery was collected from the students and returned to the family, and the matter was resolved without further incident.Educators said the situation was addressed promptly and in coordination with the child’s guardians. The episode comes at a time when incidents involving children and valuables have drawn wider attention in the region. Only days earlier in Uttar Pradesh, Deoria, a separate case saw a schoolboy lured into handing over jewellery in exchange for unlimited free momos, a case that later led to arrests and the recovery of stolen items. While the circumstances differ significantly, both situations highlight how easily children can make impulsive decisions involving items they may not fully understand the value of.In Riyadh, however, officials confirmed there was no criminal element. The jewellery was safely recovered, and the matter was handled internally between the school and the family. What began as a puzzling classroom moment ultimately ended as a reminder of how swiftly schools and parents must respond when something unusual surfaces during the school day.
