Emirates issues travel advisory: UAE nationals urged to check passport validity before flying

With increasing travel volumes and strict documentation requirements in place, Emirates has issued a strong advisory directed at all UAE nationals. The airline is urging travelers to confirm the validity of their passports or Emirates ID well in advance of their airport arrival to avoid being denied check-in or facing unexpected travel delays.

Mandatory six-month validity rule applies to most destinations

At the heart of this advisory is a government regulation that requires UAE nationals to have a minimum of six months’ validity remaining on their passport or Emirates ID at the time of international travel. This rule is applicable to all countries except those within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).It is important to understand that this requirement holds regardless of the entry regulations of the destination country. Even if the receiving country permits entry with less than six months’ validity, UAE airport check-in protocols will still enforce the full requirement. As a result, travelers who fail to meet this threshold will not be allowed to complete the check-in process, leading to missed flights and disrupted plans.

Airport denials possible without prior checks

The advisory from Emirates comes amid growing concerns that travelers may overlook the specific validity requirements of their travel documents. The airline has cautioned that passengers arriving at the airport with documents not meeting the required validity will be denied check-in outright. The core message is preventive: do not wait until reaching the airport to confirm document validity. Instead, the airline is “strongly advising” nationals to check expiry dates well ahead of their scheduled travel date, giving themselves enough time to take corrective steps if necessary.

On-site passport renewal available at Dubai Airport Terminal 3

To assist travelers who may discover an issue at the last moment, passport renewal services are available at Dubai International Airport. These services are located at the Arrival Level Immigration Offices in Terminal 3.While the renewal process is generally swift—typically taking around 30 minutes, Emirates notes that this duration can vary based on the volume of passengers at the time. Still, travelers are encouraged to not rely on airport renewal as a backup solution but instead verify document validity prior to the day of departure.
