Dubai set to introduce Uber-bookable electric air taxis later this year

Dubai residents could soon find air taxis listed alongside cars on the Uber app, as the city prepares to roll out all-electric aerial rides later this year. The move would allow passengers to book a flight as easily as ordering a standard ride, signalling a shift towards integrated ground and air transport within a single platform. The new feature, branded as Uber Air, will appear within the existing app interface. Users will enter their destination as usual. If the journey qualifies for an aerial option, the app will display an air taxi choice alongside regular transport services. Once selected, the system will manage the full journey through one booking. This includes a premium car transfer to the take-off point, the flight itself and onward ground transport to the final destination. The aircraft is fully electric and designed to accommodate up to four passengers. Each flight will be operated by a certified commercial pilot. Inside, the cabin is configured with comfortable seating and large windows, offering wide views of the city skyline from every seat. From a technical standpoint, the vehicle relies on six tilting propellers. These enable vertical take-off and landing before transitioning into forward flight. The air taxi can reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour and is capable of travelling up to 100 miles on a single charge.Engineers have tailored the aircraft for urban settings. It incorporates multiple layers of system redundancy to strengthen safety measures. Its acoustic design has also been developed to merge with typical city background noise rather than stand out sharply against it.The launch of passenger services in Dubai is expected later this year. The development represents a significant step towards multi-modal transport systems, where passengers can shift seamlessly between road and air travel within one booking process. The initiative builds on several years of planning focused on integrating air mobility into everyday commuting. The objective is to create a transport network where switching between ground vehicles and aircraft becomes routine rather than exceptional.
