Donald Trump calls Zohran Mamdani’s victory speech ‘very angry,’ says NYC mayor-elect is off to a 'bad start'

US President Donald Trump reacted to New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s victory speech and said that the 34-year-old should seek a fresh relationship with Washington or risk losing much.Trump, while responding to a question by a Fox News reporter, softened his stance and said he wanted Mamdani “to do well” as he loved New York but reiterated his past description of Mamdani as a “communist”.”You know, I’m so torn because I would like to see the new mayor do well because I love New York. I really love New York. When I left New York for Washington, New York was doing really well. But there were some bad signs. The bad sign was a guy named Bill de Blasio. So the signs of de Blasio, that was the beginning and it was bad. This one we’re going to look for a thousand years. Communism has not worked,” Trump said.

‘My Absence &…’: Trump’s First Reaction On Mamdani’s Victory, Reveals Two Reasons For Triumph

Talking about Mamdani’s victory speech in Brooklyn on Tuesday night, Trump said it was “a very angry speech” and that the new mayor-elect needed to be “good” with the US President because he had to “approve a lot of things” coming to Mamdani.“I thought it was a very angry speech, certainly angry toward me and I think he should be very nice to me as I am the one that sort of has to approve a lot of things coming to him, so he’s off to a bad start,” Trump told Fox News.During his victory speech, Mamdani directly addressed President Trump: “To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.” He added, “I have four words for him: Turn the volume up.”In a record voter turnout in New York City, where over 2 million people cast their votes, Democrat candidate Mamdani defeated Trump and Elon Musk backed independent candidate and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo alongside Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, giving Democrats momentum before the mid term polls in 2026. Earlier, Trump said the United States had lost its “sovereignty” after Mamdani won the New York City mayor election. Speaking at a business event in Miami, Trump claimed the country’s largest city would move toward communism and said he would address the situation, though he did not explain how.“We’ll take care of it,” Trump said, without giving details. Speaking in Miami a day after Mamdani’s victory, Trump said that Miami “will soon be the refuge for those fleeing communism in New York.”‘The decision facing all Americans could not be more clear: We have a choice between communism and common sense,” he said. Trump added that the choice was between an “economic nightmare” and an “economic miracle.”
