Dh2,000 fine and 23 black points: Abu Dhabi police warns drivers against reckless driving and social media videos

Dh2,000 fine and 23 black points: Abu Dhabi police warns drivers against reckless driving and social media videos

UAE motorists have been warned by the Abu Dhabi police of strict penalties for their reckless driving behaviour on the streets. The authorities have announced strict penalties for actions that endanger lives including acts such as opening car doors while vehicles are in motion and filming social media videos on the road. The warning is a part of the official’s larger campaign to promote “smart road safety” with authorities stressing that such actions can lead to severe accidents and place not only the drivers but also other road users at risk.

Clear violation of traffic laws

Police said these behaviours are clear violations of traffic laws and pose a direct threat to public safety. They urged motorists across the Emirate to act responsibly for their own lives and the lives of others while also advising them to adhere to safe driving practices at all times. They explained that road safety is a shared responsibility and the pursuit of online fame does not justify putting lives in danger.

Penalties and fines

Under UAE traffic regulations, the penalty for endangering the lives of others includes a Dh2,000 fine and 23 black points on the driver’s licence. It also involves vehicle impoundment for 60 days with motorists having to pay Dh50,000 to release the impounded vehicle. Authorities stressed that they would take firm legal action against offenders of the law. Previously, in January 2026, Abu Dhabi police officials issued stern warnings and sharp penalties for noisy driving and disruptive vehicles. They underscored that loud, roaring engines and other forms of disruptive driving are public safety concerns. Under Article 20 of the Traffic and Circulation Law, motorists who operate vehicles that cause excessive noise face a Dh2,000 fine and a deduction of 12 black points from their driving licence, if found violating the law.
