Deadly blast rocks Mexico: 23 killed in department store explosion - video

At least 23 people were killed after an explosion tore through a department store in Hermosillo, the capital of Mexico’s northern state of Sonora, according to Governor Alfonso Durazo.”At this moment we have registered 23 people killed, 11 injured. Sadly a number of the victims we’ve found were minors,” Alfonso Durazo, governor of Sonora state, said in a video message, AFP reported. The explosion happened at a Waldo’s store in the city center. The blast triggered a massive fire that engulfed the building on Saturday, with firefighters rushing to the scene as videos showed thick smoke and a burning car nearby. “This is a sad day for Sonora, especially for the families who lost a loved one at the Hermosillo shopping centre,” Durazo said. “The State Government will take all necessary actions to support the families and individuals affected by the explosion that occurred at the Waldo’s store.”President Claudia Sheinbaum offered her condolences, saying: “My heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who perished in the fire at a shop in central Hermosillo.” She added that a federal support team had been dispatched to assist victims and their families.
