Can't move to Pakistan: Man who caused five-vehicle crash, killed 1, allowed to stay in Canada; wife says children don't know Urdu

Yasir Baig, a Pakistani man who was ordered to be deported to Pakistan 17 months ago after he caused a deadly five-vehicle crash in Ontario has been allowed to stay in Canada. The crash took place in 2018 and one person was killed and several were injured. Baig fled the scene but later surrendered to the police. Since then, the case has been going on but now Baig has won his appeal to stay in Canada on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, National Post reported. In 2024, a removal order was issued against Baig but Baig appealed against the order. When the Immigration Appeal Division rejected his appeal, he took his case to the Federal Court which ruled in favor of Baig, considering that his wife and children would have to face a lot of hardships if they are moved to Pakistan. The ruling also noted that Baig pleaded guilty, cited how remorseful he was and how he would suffer from ‘lack of appropriate medical care in Pakistan’, as his twin sons have learning disabilities. The Ontario Parole Board found that his risk was manageable in the community and he was a “very low risk of re-offending”. Baig’s wife testified that their children would face language barriers in Pakistan and none of their three children speaks either Urdu or Panjabi. The twin boys require educational accommodations, including special laptops. Baig’s wife said she feared that her sons would be judged in Pakistan for their learning disabilities. Baig became a permanent resident of Canada in 2008 through a spousal sponsorship. Their twin boys were born in 2019 and another son was born in 2019. The 2018 accident took place because Baig lost his temper when a car behind him flashed his high beams twice. Baig brought his car to a complete stop on a busy highway, causing a pile-up crash. Seven people were rushed to the hospital from the crash scene, including two women who suffered critical injuries. One of the women later died in the hospital.
