Michael McCoy is the chief of staff at Turning Point USA. Candace Owens says the group wanted people to see him as the “new” Charlie Kirk after Charlie was killed. Candace Owens said this on Myron Gaines’ podcast on November 18, 2025. She also spoke about how she feels about the people around Charlie Kirk and how they acted after his death. Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. He died that day. Candace Owens said she does not like the way the group is acting after Charlie’s death. She also said that Charlie sent a text to someone one day before he died saying, “They are going to kill me.” She said she wants answers and will keep asking what really happened. She believes Turning Point USA tried to bring Michael McCoy in front of the public in a very planned way.

Candace Owens said that Michael McCoy, who works as chief of staff at Turning Point USA, was being pushed as the next face of the group. She said that the group brought back a YouTube page with a speech from Michael McCoy. She said it looked like the group wanted the public to slowly accept him. Candace Owens said this felt strange and did not make sense to her. Candace Owens also talked about Michael McCoy’s past. She said he had a simple education and also spoke about his father in a negative way. She said it felt like someone wanted people to see Michael McCoy as a hero very fast and then he suddenly stepped back. She said this did not feel normal to her.

Candace Owens was also asked about Erika Kirk, Charlie’s wife, and how she is dealing with the loss. She said people close to Charlie, like his manager “Mike,” may be playing a part, but she did not say names directly.Candace Owens also spoke about who she thinks is “most responsible” for Charlie Kirk’s death. When Myron Gaines asked her this, she said she does not like the silence from Turning Point USA employees. She said she knows one worker has a text from Charlie saying he feared he would be killed. She said this makes her feel something is wrong.Candace Owens said she made it clear that she will not let anyone make her stay quiet. She said Charlie once told her that Turning Point USA would be the reason for his death. She said Charlie Kirk also told her he knew he would die young.
