Canadian shot in Wisconsin: Tourist Giovanni Michael 'Mike' Robinson killed on golf trip while walking to hotel; hunt on for SUV driver

A Canadian man on a golf trip in Wisconsin was shot and killed in a drive-by attack early Wednesday, according to local police and multiple media reports. The victim, identified as Giovanni Michael “Mike” Robinson, 32, of Stouffville, Ontario, was struck by gunfire just after midnight while walking back to his hotel in Sheboygan Falls, police told TMJ4. Officers responding around 12:08 am found Robinson with a gunshot wound. Despite emergency aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheboygan Falls Police Department said in a media release.Authorities said a preliminary investigation suggests Robinson was targeted by someone in a small dark-coloured SUV, but no arrests have been made. “Officers are working diligently to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this time, no suspects have been apprehended,” the department stated.Family members told WTMJ-TV that Robinson, a former Ontario Hockey League player, had travelled to Wisconsin for a golf trip and had celebrated his first-ever hole-in-one at Whistling Straits golf course just hours before the shooting. They said the outing was one of his first since welcoming his daughter with his wife Rachel last month.Robinson’s brother Jacob said the family is devastated. “He was a very good man, and he was an awesome brother. He was an even better husband. And he was going to be an amazing dad. He was excited to be a father,” Jacob told TMJ4. “Just this senseless act has taken away so many aspects. Not only a brother, but a son and a husband, and now my little niece—she’s only 5 weeks old—and she’s never really going to ever know her true father.”Relatives described Robinson as a “true family man” who had embraced fatherhood with joy. “Mike was so excited to become a father, constantly asking family and friends questions and looking for advice to prepare so that he would be ready,” his family wrote on a fundraising page. “It is the most heartbreaking to know he will never be able to hold his baby girl again.”The Council on American-Islamic Relations confirmed to Global News that Robinson was originally from Stouffville. Wisconsin police said the motive remains unclear and urged anyone with information about the dark SUV to come forward.
