Canada prepares for a hypothetical attack from America for the first time in 100 years: 'Unlikely but...'

The Canadian military has been working on a hypothetical scenario in which the US military attacks Canada, Globe and Mail reported adding that it is believed to be the first time in a century that the Canadian Armed Forces have created a military model that includes a conceptual and theoretical framework. Canada does not believe that the Trump administration would order an invasion of Canada but the model is in place. This comes at a time when Trump stepped up his plan to get Greenland from Denmark despite the warning coming from the European countries. The Globe report cited Canadian officials who revealed that the planners are modelling a US invasion from the south, where American forces would be able to overcome Canada’s strategic positions on land and at sea as quickly as in two days. Canada does not have the military personnel or sophisticated equipment needed to stop American troops. The hypothetical model relies on unconventional warfare in which small groups of irregular military or armed civilians would resort to ambushes, sabotage, drone warfare or hit-and-run tactics.

Canada's Globe and Mail reported that the military is preparing for a 'hypothetical American invasion'.<br />” msid=”126865209″ width=”” title=”” placeholdersrc=”https://static.toiimg.com/photo/83033472.cms” imgsize=”23456″ resizemode=”4″ offsetvertical=”0″ placeholdermsid=”” type=”thumb” src=”https://static.toiimg.com/photo/83033472.cms” class=”” data-src=”https://static.toiimg.com/photo/imgsize-23456,msid-126865209/canadas-globe-and-mail-reported-that-the-military-is-preparing-for-a-hypothetical-american-invasion-br.jpg” data-api-prerender=”true”/></div>

<p> “One of the officials said the model includes tactics used by the Afghan mujahedeen in their hit-and-run attacks on Russian soldiers during the 1979-1989 Soviet-Afghan War. These were the same tactics employed by the Taliban in their 20-year war against the US and allied forces that included Canada. Many of the 158 Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014 were struck by improvised explosive devices or IEDs,” the report said.Canada’s military, however, asserted that its relationship with the US military remains positive and they are working together on ‘Golden Dome’ to defend against Russian or Chinese missiles. The military has also run models on missile strikes from Russia or China on Canadian cities and critical infrastructure, they said. </p>

  • Canada would have a maximum of three months to prepare for a land and sea invasion, an officer told the newspaper.
  • The first indications that invasion orders had been sent would be expected to come from US military warnings that Canada no longer has a shared skies policy with the United States.
  • European countries will be called on to provide support.
