Bridge for bridge: Iran lists 7 Gulf targets after Karaj strike

Iran has signalled potential retaliation across the Gulf after sustaining a major blow from US-led strikes near its capital. The attack targeted a key bridge in Karaj, hardly 50 km from Tehran, leaving multiple casualties and triggering a sharp escalation in tensions.US President Donald Trump announced the strike, announcing that Iran’s tallest bridge had been hit—just hours after warning he could bomb the Islamic Republic “back to stone ages.” According to Fars News Agency, Tehran is now weighing a “tit for tat” response. The report said Iranian media outlets have begun identifying key infrastructure across the region as potential targets, signalling a possible widening of the conflict.

Among the sites listed are major strategic bridges, including Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Sea Bridge, King Fahd Causeway, Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, as well as King Hussein Bridge, Damia Bridge and Abdoun Bridge. The strikes, carried out jointly by the US and Israel early Thursday, hit the B1 bridge in Karaj—an important transport link in Alborz province—causing significant destruction and casualties. Visuals circulating online showed large sections of the structure collapsing following the impact.Trump took to Truth Social to hail the operation, suggesting more attacks could follow. “The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again, Much more to follow!” he wrote. The B1 bridge, considered one of Iran’s most modern infrastructure projects, spans nearly 1,000 metres and plays a crucial role in easing congestion between Tehran and Karaj while connecting routes to the country’s northern regions.Regional tensions have sharply escalated since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on February 28, a campaign that has so far claimed over 1,340 lives, including that of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
