The first UAE–Kuwaiti Women’s Forum opened in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, marking a new phase in bilateral cooperation with a strong focus on women’s empowerment, sustainable development and future leadership. Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the “Mother of the Nation”, the forum coincides with the ‘UAE–Kuwait: Brothers Forever’ Week, which runs from January 29 to February 4. Organised by the General Women’s Union in cooperation with Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the forum runs until February 3 and brings together women leaders, policymakers and stakeholders from both countries. The gathering is aimed at reinforcing long-standing fraternal ties while expanding cooperation in areas where women play an increasingly central role in national development and sustainability agendas. An opening address delivered on behalf of H.H. Sheikha Fatima by Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union, described the forum as a reflection of the UAE’s belief in joint action and integrated efforts to build a more prosperous future. The address noted that the initiative aligns with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which emphasise cooperation, inclusion and shared progress as key pillars of development. The address also underscored the depth of relations between the UAE and Kuwait, portraying the forum as a meeting point between a shared legacy and a future shaped through collaboration. It highlighted the convergence of the UAE’s “Mother of the Nation 50:50” vision and Kuwait’s “Kuwait 2035” vision, reinforcing the shared view that investing in people remains central to building stable, resilient and prosperous societies. In this context, the contributions of Kuwaiti women to national development were acknowledged and praised. Al Suwaidi said the forum represents a qualitative milestone in Emirati–Kuwaiti cooperation, strengthening institutional coordination and opening broader horizons for joint work that supports women’s issues and sustainable development across sectors. The forum is being held in a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual participation to widen engagement and dialogue. It seeks to highlight the role of Emirati and Kuwaiti women in strengthening historic ties, exchanging expertise and fostering discussions among women leaders on priority issues, emerging challenges and future opportunities. The programme includes two main sessions covering a wide range of themes, including women and future-making, advanced technology, peace and security, women’s sport, and women’s roles in media, tourism, logistics and supply chains. Climate action and renewable energy are also part of the discussions, reflecting the expanding scope of women’s participation across strategic and emerging sectors. Alongside the forum, a five-day accompanying exhibition is being held at the headquarters of the General Women’s Union. The exhibition showcases women-led initiatives, productive families, and small and emerging businesses, alongside cultural and heritage displays from both countries. Together, these exhibits highlight the role of women in preserving heritage and transforming it into sustainable economic and social value, reinforcing the broader objectives of the forum.
