NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits at the 19th Rozgar Mela via video conferencing, as part of the government’s broader push to boost employment generation.Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that since the Rozgar Mela series was initiated by PM Modi on October 22, 2023, the number of appointments in government jobs has increased, transparency has been brought into the recruitment system, and candidates’ confidence has grown. He added that the discipline of timelines and deadlines has also increased in the recruitment process, and the merit of candidates appointed through the Rozgar Mela has been superior.Inspired by Modi’s initiative, several state governments have also started organising similar job fairs. More than 5.5 to 6 lakh jobs have been created through job fairs in states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Tripura.Since its inception, around 12 lakh recruitment letters have been issued through 18 Rozgar Melas across the country. The 19th Rozgar Mela was held at 47 locations, with recruits joining various ministries including Railways, Home Affairs, Health, Financial Services and Higher Education.Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said, “I just returned from a trip to five countries two days ago. It was only a five-nation trip, but during this time, I spoke, had detailed discussions, and met with leaders of major companies from dozens of countries, and I felt one thing in common everywhere: The world is very excited about India’s youth and India’s technological progress. Today, the world wants to be a part of India’s development journey. India is also partnering with various countries around the world. I also want the youth of my country to get global exposure.”He also spoke about how his recent five-nation tour — covering the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy — led to conversations about industries that will dominate the coming years and how they will benefit Indian youth.Modi added, “Today, sectors related to clean energy, critical minerals, green hydrogen, and sustainable manufacturing are also growing rapidly. Partnerships related to these are opening doors to new opportunities in the new economy. Cooperation in green transition and sustainable technology is also increasing with countries like Sweden, Norway, and Italy. Partnerships with the UAE and Norway will strengthen India’s shipbuilding ecosystem.”India is becoming a dependable supply chain partner. The ASML-Tata agreement has made India one of the few nations with this strategic partnership, which will create multiple employment opportunities and open doors to becoming a next-generation tech hub.Sweden’s collaboration on technology and AI, and the UAE’s cooperation on supercomputing, will strengthen India’s technological prowess and also create employment opportunities.Ports, shipping and maritime infrastructure agreements have been worked on with the UAE and Norway. Shipbuilding infrastructure will strengthen the need for skilled manpower, creating further demand and job opportunities. With every partnership, Modi said, India is creating opportunities for startups and young professionals to connect with the world, access advanced expertise, global markets and growth opportunities.
