NEW DELHI: A woman Naxalite, wanted in nine cases of violence and carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Thursday. The gun battle took place in the morning on a forested hill between Gufdi and Permapara villages under Gadiras police station limits. A team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) had launched a search operation after receiving information about Naxalite movement in the area, an official said, as reported by news agency PTI. After the firing stopped, security personnel recovered the body of Buski Nuppo, 35, from the spot. Nuppo was a member of the Maoists’ Malangir area committee and was wanted in cases registered across Sukma and Dantewada districts. Police said a 315 bore rifle, cartridges, a wireless set, detonators, gelatin rods, Cordex wire, gunpowder, a radio, and Maoist literature were seized from the site.Earlier this month, ten Naxalites, including CPI (Maoist) central committee member Modem Balakrishna, were killed in an encounter in Gariaband district on September 11.. With this encounter, 247 Naxalites have been killed in Chhattisgarh so far this year, according to police. Of them, 218 were killed in the Bastar division, 27 in Gariaband, and two in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Durg division.
