'We are ashamed': Accused Harsh Singh apologises over racial slurs at 3 Arunachal women in Delhi

Harsh Singh

NEW DELHI: Harsh Singh on Tuesday publicly apologised after allegations surfaced that he subjected three women from Arunachal Pradesh to racial slurs and intimidation in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. The incident, which went viral on social media, stemmed from a dispute over repair work in the women’s rented flat on February 20.Speaking to reporters, Singh said: ā€œWe are showing complete cooperation with Delhi Police and we have complete faith that the police and Indian judiciary stand with us and will clear everything through unbiased investigation. We are definitely ashamed. I am not such a person, but it was in the heat of the moment. We did not intend to do so. I want to ask social media users to listen to both sides of the story. I personally apologise to all the Northeastern people.ā€ He further explained the circumstances that led to the confrontation, ā€œOur property was being attacked and one of my men was about to be attacked. The situation escalated after the woman came. Please do not do media trials. We will accept whatever punishment we get. I am being sent obscene doctored images of my mother on social media. Our family and profession should not be dragged into this.ā€The dispute began when the three women, who reside on the fourth floor of a rented flat in Malviya Nagar, called an electrician around 3.30 pm on February 20 to install an air conditioner. During the work, dust and debris from drilling fell onto the floor below, prompting objections from Singh and his wife Ruby Jain, who live in the apartment below.Police said a case was registered at Malviya Nagar Police Station under Sections 79, 351(2), 3(5) and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Harsh Singh and his wife Ruby Jain, residents of Malviya Nagar. Cops on Wednesday arrested Ruby Jain in connection with the incident.
