PM Modi to NDA MPs: Hold 'Swadeshi Melas', promote GST 2.0 and 'Made in India' goods this festive season

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs to take the lead in promoting indigenous products by organising ‘Swadeshi Melas’ in their constituencies to encourage people to buy ‘Made in India’ items.PM Modi, who held meeting with NDA MPs on Monday over the recent GST reforms, asked them to organise 20-30 trader conferences in their respective constituencies to educate traders and shopkeepers about the benefits and improvements of GST, news agency ANI reported quoting sources. The MPs have been asked to organise the fairs during Navratri to Diwali. The theme would be: ‘Garv se kaho ye swadeshi hai’ – showcasing local artisans, micro and small industries, and indigenous products. The Prime Minister also advised MPs to engage with local trader associations and industry representatives, particularly on concerns over GST rate cuts and simplification of compliance. According to sources, he stressed that constructive dialogue with small businesses could help address bottlenecks and strengthen grassroots confidence in economic reforms. On Sunday, PM Modi also joined a special workshop for BJP MPs, where a resolution was passed praising the government’s GST reforms as the party gears up for a nationwide outreach campaign to highlight their benefits. He spent the day with MPs during the inaugural session of the Sansad Karyashala, attending multiple group discussions. According to sources, the Prime Minister offered suggestions, shared his views, and urged lawmakers to engage more actively in parliamentary committees. In one combined session of select committee members, he emphasised the importance of MPs contributing to discussions, thoroughly studying issues, and preparing detailed reports to strengthen the quality of parliamentary work.
