Nightclub fire: North Goa court orders fresh medical check of Luthra brothers; one sibling reported chest pain earlier

NEW DELHI: A North Goa court on Wednesday ordered a fresh medical examination of Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, co-owners of the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub, a day after they were brought from Delhi.The Luthra brothers were arrested on Tuesday after landing in Delhi following their deportation from Thailand in connection with the December 6 fire that killed 25 people. A Delhi court allowed the Goa Police a two-day transit remand.

After landing at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, they were first examined at a Primary Health Centre in Siolim where one of them complained of chest pain and uneasiness. The duo was later taken to the District Hospital in Mapusa on the order of the court. After over an hour, they were taken to the Anjuna police station, about 10 km away, and then produced in court.The Anjuna police had registered a case against the brothers after the fire in Arpora village. The charges include culpable homicide not amounting to murder.The brothers had fled to Phuket, Thailand, on December 7, hours after the fire. Authorities issued an Interpol Blue Corner Notice and canceled their passports. Thai officials detained them on December 11 after the Indian government requested their arrest. They were deported under legal treaties between India and Thailand.So far, police have arrested five managers and staff members in connection with the fire.
