NEW DELHI: BJP’s Mrinal Saikia has won the fight against Congress’s Roselina Tirkey for the constituency of Khumtai in the 2026 assembly elections. Saikia has won the poll with a margin of 58,412. There were a total of 171697 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Khumtai Assembly constituency, of whom 84124 were male, 87568 female and 5 belonged to the third gender.Exit polls released on Wednesday evening for the high-stakes Assam battle indicate a clear majority for the incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, with most pollsters favouring the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in the tea-producing state.

Khumtai Assembly constituency is a general unreserved seat located in Golaghat district of Upper Assam.It is one of the 10 Assembly segments under the Kaziranga Lok Sabha constituency.In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,41,259 registered voters, with 1,16,233 valid votes cast.Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mrinal Saikia won the seat with 65,655 votes. Congress candidate Bismita Gogoi finished second with 38,522 votes, losing by a margin of 27,133 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, Khumtai had 1,20,648 electors, with 1,04,267 valid votes recorded. BJP candidate Mrinal Saikia won the seat with 57,637 votes, defeating Congress candidate Bismita Gogoi, who secured 40,763 votes.According to the final electoral roll for the 2026 Assembly elections, Khumtai has 1,71,697 eligible voters, up from 1,64,148 in 2024.
